Blonde Highlights: Light Whites for Long Summer Days

Female Tennis PlayersThis year’s summer solstice also heralded Naked Hiking Day, so you may very well have filled your goatskin bota and sought higher elevation and the bliss of an all-body tan. Apparently it’s also an easier way to spot ticks.

Wimbledon is also upon us, and while the streaker era has passed, you’ll want to watch carefully. If you conked out in your chaise during last year’s nearly five-hour final, you missed pages in an epic for the ages. (Nadal’s biceps, Federer’s tears – it was all there.)

The point being: at elastic summer occasions, you don’t want to poop out on the summit in the buff, or lose it in the home stretch. This requires a long-horizon wine with a lighter palate and a tempered alcohol level to keep your blood sugar from doing a Dow Jones.

A fine dalliance is to be had with Soellner Wogenrain Grüner Veltliner, an Austrian organic whose clean, bright profile will make you forget all about the scary-in-an-Austin-Powers-villain-kind-of-way name.

Another good day-into-night option: the crisp Colombard from Domaine d’Espérance, perhaps one of the most charmingly unpretentious wines ever shipped from Southwestern France. And at less than a ten-spot, you can speak it all day long.

Slip one of these light whites into your weekend bag along with your SPF, your aviators and your little white bikini, and you will indeed be ready to go the distance.
