Prime Time Pair-Up: Parks and Recreation, and Bubbly

Amy Poehler

On SNL, Amy Poehler always had that wild look in her eye, bringing a sparkling spontaneity to a slow show. It’ll be great to see this new baby mama trade in her Hillary pantsuit for…a skirtsuit, helming her own show.

What to tipple with this funny blonde? “Parks and Recreation” is a mockumentary set in the geographic heartland (Indiana), so howzabout a domestic bubbly: golden, sparkling, and deliciously dry. A couple easy-peasies to make your night-in pop:

Gruet Brut – this non-vintage (hey, it’s a new show) from New Mexico is the offspring of émigrés from Champagne, who work some big round flavor into this wine’s tart, nutty fireworks. ($13)

Roederer Estate Brut Rosé – a smokier blonde California sparkler. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay dance gracefully here, with lots of zexy citrus and peach between the bubbles, and a finish that’ll last the whole show. ($28)

Domaine Carneros Le Rêve Blanc de BlancsLe rêve is French for the dream, which, if you’ve only got two bucks for Charles Shaw, makes sense. But if you want to really raise the bubbles bar, this silky, modern, organic ‘white of whites’ from Carneros (Sonoma and Napa) will help create a vintage night. ($85)
