Mr. Right Now

Columbia Crest, Two Vines, 2006 Riesling

Don’t overthink this one: easy on the eyes, smells nice, and the price is right. A Riesling not so much on the lederhosen tip, but more like a favorite flannel shirt that still fits.

Goes great with: Anything spicy! – do a blind pull from your takeout folder.

Sometimes you’re in a relationship with someone you know isn’t going to mature, but who’s reasonably romantic, sweet, and easygoing. You like the way they smell. They’re not going to win a Nobel, but they’re far from being pretentious.

Reliable to the point of even being adaptable, you keep coming back. Maybe they’re from the Northwest; maybe they wear a lot of flannel.

Wineries have been popping up in the upper-left hand corner of the US like lemonade stands, planting a lot of Riesling. Good thing too — they’re a great value, and their bright palate and electric acidity goes great with any number of foods.

The next time you order Spicy Red Basil Chicken, try pairing it with Columbia Crest Two Vines 2006 Riesling ($9.99 at Wine Outlet; wineoutlet.com). You won’t go broke hanging with this one, and its sweet-tart finish might just become an old favorite.
